Scar Treatment Tip #1 – Avoid Strain
Avoid putting strain on a wound site during healing: Putting strain on a wound site can slow and hinder the healing process and lead to more prominent scarring. Stretching the skin may open/ widen the wound and increase healing time.
Scar Treatment Tip #2 – Enjoy a Scarfade Massage
When applying scar gel, a good rule of thumb is to spend 3-5 minutes massaging Scarfade into the skin during each application. We suggest using both circular (clock wise and counter clock wise) motions as well as up and down and sideways motions. This will help break down scar tissue.
Scar Treatment Tip #3 – Get Your Daily Dose of Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps heal skin wounds and prevent them from becoming infected by promoting healthy collagen production and providing antioxidant benefits. Good natural sources of Vitamin C include citrus fruits, tomatoes, bell peppers and green leafy vegetables.
Scar Treatment Tip #4 – Wear Your Sunscreen
When soaking up the sunshine in true summer fashion, be sure to cover scars with SPF rated clothing or sunscreen. While the idea of tanning a light scar seems like a nice idea, it’s not. Melanin is what gives your skin a tanned look, but scars produce it in uneven patches. Too much melanin on the upper layers of skin creates hyperpigmentation.
Scar Treatment Tip #5 – Apply, Apply, and Re-Apply
To achieve best results one must use Scarfade daily for several weeks. We recommend 12 weeks as a general rule of thumb.
Scar Treatment Tip #6 – Resist the Urge to Pick Scabs
While scabs can itch, it’s important to leave them in place. Every time you pull off the scab, it sets back the healing process and exposes the area beneath to possible infection. The scab will eventually go away as a scar forms.
Scar Treatment Tip #7 – Press the Snooze Button
The body does its best healing during REM sleep. Your skin rejuvenates more quickly because your body sends out healing hormones. If you don’t get enough restful sleep, your body can’t regenerate as efficiently and your scars heal more slowly.
Scar Treatment Tip #8 – Know the Facts
When searching for Scar Treatment products, check the ingredients lists for Silicone/Dimethicone. This is the only ingredient documented to be effective on scars via scientific studies published in reputable medical journals. Other ingredients may be good for the skin, but when added to Scar Treatment products, they can actually decrease effectiveness.
Scar Treatment Tip #9 – Stay Dry
Long periods underwater or exposure to running water can make the scabs or softened new skin fall off. This prolongs the healing process. Immersion in cold water for more than a minute or two slows down blood flow, which in turn slows down scar healing.
Scar Treatment Tip #10 – Keep Scarfade Handy
Scarfade isn’t just for surgical scars. It is also great for keeping minor cuts, scrapes, bug bites, etc. from becoming scars. Many of our customers keep a tube in their medicine cabinet just in case.
