Think celebrities look perfect all the time? Not a chance. Magazine images can easily be edited and TV appearances are carefully crafted to emphasize their best side. Makeup can do a lot to hide scars, but actually fading them requires either a medical procedure or a powerful topical treatment like Scarfade Scar Gel.

Perhaps you’re self-conscious about scars on your face or body? Well, these celebs aren’t immune to scarring. Yet they have persevered and so can you.

Tina Fey

This star of 30 Rock and countless comedies was quiet for many years about the scar on the left side of her face. However, she eventually told the story about how that scar came to be. When she was just five years old, she was playing in the front yard of her Upper Darby PA home when a stranger approached her and cut her face without provocation.

Sharon Stone

This actress, film producer, and former fashion model bears a long faint scar on her neck. She attributes this scar to a childhood horseback riding accident when she rode into a clothesline, causing serious damage. Today, if you look close enough, you can still spot the scar covered by makeup and jewelry.

Seal

This Grammy-award winning singer features several noticeable pitted scars on his face, which are not the result of an injury but of a skin condition. It’s called Discoid Lupus Erythematosus, which he contracted as a teenager. Discoid Lupus Erythematosus, or DLE for short, is a chronic skin condition featuring sores with inflammation and scarring on the face, ears, and scalp, according to the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology.

Joaquin Phoenix

Many have speculated as to the origin of this famous American actor’s facial scar. Turns out, he was born with a mild version of a Cleft Palate known as a Microform Cleft.

Harrison Ford

Well known as the actor who portrayed such legendary characters as Indiana Jones and Han Solo, Harrison Ford sports a rather prominent scar on his chin caused by a car accident. He was trying to put on his seat belt while driving but lost control of the vehicle and crashed.

Mary J. Blige

This Grammy award-winning artist won’t say publicly how she got the scar near her left eye, but some speculate it came about in a fight with another woman; others says she got it in childhood as part of a traumatic event too terrible to discuss.

Accepting your scars as part of who you are can be difficult at first, but if you do what you can to minimize the effects, you’ll be more at peace with the reflection you see in the mirror.
